Rhythm in the barrios

Building New Hope has launched an excellent music program at Quinta Los Chavalos that has spawned young pianists, flautists, and guitar players who have become well known for their local concerts.

A grant from Project Ahimsa, and donated music instruments, helped us establish the program called Rhythm in the Barrios directed by Raul Planas, a music teacher from Barcelona, Spain. Under his artful direction, children in several Granada neighborhoods and numerous rural schools have been introduced to the joy of music. Electric keyboards, guitars and flutes have been distributed where Raul and volunteer assistants encourage new students to explore… to learn… to share their music with their families and community.

The young music students have already had a small taste of fame by performing for audiences in local restaurants, the Central Park, and citywide children’s events.
